It’s no wonder that Epic Rides was born in a country that has, wait for it, 1,244 islands.

Choosing from a showcase of over 1,000 of anything is always a bit of a lottery. But when it came to selecting the second island for Epic Rides (the first was Krk), despite the fierce competition, Rab stood out from the very beginning as one of the favorites.
Because this mid-sized Adriatic island, on a relatively small area, offers fascinating diversity, and it’s almost unbelievable that within just a few kilometers’ distance you can find both rocky wastelands and primeval forests. Although its altitude isn’t one of its main strengths, the views it offers are spectacular. Its rugged coastline and irregular shape seem made for cycling adventures, because behind every bend lies a new story. A true Epic Rides story.

There was a long checklist for the Epic Rides route on Rab. We circled around for days, exploring every road and trail, to create a route that will once again show and prove why experiencing a destination by bike is one of the best products from the factory of happiness.

Epic Rides takes you to the island of happiness, the island of Rab.
Route
Start and finish are in the town of Rab, in one of its beautiful city parks. Rab is a small town, so it will take us about 2.5 kilometers riding in a column to exit the town and turn towards the more rural parts of the island. In the first 4.5 kilometers, we’ll climb about 100 meters in elevation to open up the first viewpoints – on one side towards the town of Rab and out to the open sea, and on the other side towards the island’s interior.
Although the climb to Fruga is only 90 meters of elevation gain, it is brutally steep, with a constant 14–16%. But even if you need to briefly get off your bike and push uphill, the climb is truly worth it because Fruga is hard to describe without experiencing it – and we warmly recommend that you do. A plateau where time seems to stand still, ponds that never dry up and serve for sheep grazing, erosion-carved sandy surfaces that, besides being interesting and beautiful, are also great fun to ride.
On Fruga, you’ll also find an entirely new section of this Epic Rides route – instead of looping back, we descend on the other side and enjoy stunning panoramic views.
The middle part of the Epic Rides route takes you into different corners of this wonderful little island. It also includes riding right next to the sea, occasionally even along a promenade that in some places is barely a meter wide. There are plenty of spots to rest, take photos, and swim.
At the 28th kilometer, the Short route heads back towards the old town and the finish, while the Epic Rides continues onto Kalifront. This gorgeous, wooded, and rugged peninsula full of secluded bays and beaches is one of the most beautiful spots not just on Rab, but along the entire Adriatic. It’s crisscrossed with excellent gravel paths, and you’ll surely encounter deer, mouflons, and roe deer along the way. About halfway through the peninsula, you’ll enter a protected area where you’ll need to get off your bike and push it through a narrow passage made exactly for this purpose.
The return to the town of Rab again follows the coastline and finishes with a ride through Komrčar city park all the way to the finish line, where a well-deserved meal, rest, and socializing await.
NOTE: The Epic Rides route is always carefully designed, ensuring that it never exceeds 50 km and 1,000 m of elevation gain (combined). Also, the route has no technically demanding sections, and if any are unavoidable due to terrain, they are short, walkable, and additionally marked along the course.
