Wild, undiscovered, stunningly beautiful, moody with its changing weather, full of life in its forests.
Harsh and icy in winter, pleasant and mild in summer. Endless forests and meadows, streams, rivers, and lakes – an oasis of peace and silence just half an hour from the nearest Adriatic beaches.
Although the Gorski Kotar Tourist Board consistently ignores us, Epic Rides is coming to Gorski Kotar for the 4th time. And this time to a brand-new and very special location – with a slightly different Epic Rides.
Kupjak is a small village at 800 meters above sea level, with a beautiful view of the Kupa Valley and Slovenia. It probably got its name from this position above the Kupa. Kupjak is also home to perhaps the most famous Croatian sledding spot – Gorski Sjaj. Right next to it is Gorski Park, a small and intimate guesthouse that will host the last Epic Rides event of the spring season.
As befits the final Epic Rides before the summer break, after Epic Rides Kupjak / Gorski Kotar, we’ll gather in the evening at Gorski Park for music, fire, barbecue, and a few Pans or other drinks.

Route
A typical Gorski Kotar route. In translation, that means lots and lots of forest, riding along rivers, beautiful gravel roads, and narrow, winding, hidden lanes. And yes, elevation gain – because Gorski Kotar is hilly.
Of all the Epic Rides, this Epic will have the greatest difference between the highest and lowest points on the route. The start is at almost 800 meters above sea level, and right after the start, we descend into the valley of the Kupa River. A full 10 kilometers of downhill through the forest takes us to the village of Iševnica. The Kupa Valley is full of water, so along the way, we cross and ride next to the Curak stream, then the Kupica (a tributary of the Kupa), and finally reach the Kupa River itself and the border with Slovenia.
After the descent comes, of course, the climb – long and steady, but only occasionally steep. The good news is that there are plateaus every so often, making the ascent easier to manage. Plus, almost the entire climb is shaded by forest.
This Epic Rides route will take you through several small villages and hamlets connected by those same narrow, sometimes unpaved roads. Rogi, Belski Ravni, Zakrajac Brodski, Divjake, and Hribac are reminders of bygone times when these villages sprang up far from main roads. Today, they leave everyone who passes through wondering how and why people lived here, and how incredible it would be to wake up in one of these villages – truly far from the hustle and stress of modern life.
After the first part of the route, which runs at an elevation of 200–300 meters, the second part climbs between 700 and 900 meters. You’ll notice the difference in temperature and vegetation, but forests, meadows, and views will still dominate.
NOTE: The Epic Rides route is always carefully designed, ensuring it never exceeds 50 km and 1,000 meters of elevation gain (combined). Also, the route contains no technically demanding sections. If certain segments cannot be avoided due to terrain configuration, they are short, can be walked, and are additionally marked on the route.

COFFEE RIDE – SUNDAY RELAX RIDE
For participants of the “SUMMER SPECIAL” edition of EPIC RIDES – Kupjak / Gorski kotar we’ve prepared a relaxed Sunday Coffee Ride!

During Sunday morning we’ll enjoy a relaxed Coffee Ride of approx. 30 km – a light wake-up and the perfect ending to this EPIC RIDES weekend.
This Sunday ride is included in the EPIC RIDES entry fee, and if you don’t have your own bike – e-bike rental is available for an additional fee*.

The Zeleni vir excursion site consists of two attractions – Zeleni vir with its 70-meter-high waterfall and the nearby Vražji prolaz canyon, 800 meters long. Together they create a breathtaking landscape. We’ll take the longer approach to the site, from the Donji Ložac entrance, walking about 20 minutes to the park entrance, where the mountain lodge with refreshments is located. From there, the path leads to Zeleni vir and Vražji prolaz. The trails are not circular, so we’ll return the same way.
